About Mindery
Mindery is a simple tool that sends you text messages about important-to-you things like subscriptions, events, appointments, birthdays, anniversaries, deadlines, etc.
There are other tools to do this, of course, such as calendars, fancier “cancel unwanted subscriptions” apps/services, budgeting apps, spreadsheets, making lists on paper, and people who nag us. Those solutions work for many people, and we are happy for them.
Mindery is focused on helping the rest of us pay closer attention to our important-to-us things. It does this by keeping track of those things we enter into the list of alerts we want Mindery to send us.
How It Works
When the the date arrives for one of our alerts, Mindery sends a text message to our phone to remind us about that thing (appointment, subscription renewal, anniversary, etc.).
That’s it. Doing something about that reminder is up to us.
Dead Simple (and mostly manual) — On Purpose
How we act is the definition of behavior.
Getting better at remembering and/or acting on important-to-us things is a behavior improvement goal. Most people want to get better at this—hence all the ways and tools for doing this.
But too much “done for you” or navigating complicated processes gets in the way. Simplicity, combined with active “I am on this” data entry, is our approach here. It isn’t for everyone, and that’s OK.
We Were Skeptical
As we were building Mindery, cofounder Jeff doubted that Mindery would help him much, but he took an hour to figure out what subscriptions he was paying for. He thought he was on top of this—despite never really doing the analysis.
Just in Amazon Prime add-on streaming subscriptions, Jeff found almost $100/month of surprises.
Looking at checking account and credit card activity to figure out what reminder alerts to create during the Mindery onboarding process, Jeff and his wife found (and cancelled) another $215 in monthly subscriptions.
WOW. You may not be spending this much on subscriptions, but you are probably spending more than you think.
Show Me The Money!
That brings us to the Initial pitch of Mindery being about preventing unwanted charges for forgotten subscriptions. Many of us are paying for things we signed up for months (or years) ago and forgot about.
So talking about saving money is a logical way to introduce something like this—because who doesn’t want to save money?
Early Days
This is an early iteration of what Mindery will become. As people use it, usage pattens and user suggestions will drive additional iterations.
Join us to be part of that.
